- 2 large eggs

- 2 large egg yolks

For the cream cheese frosting:

- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

- 2 cups powdered sugar

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat butter until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, then add red food coloring and vanilla extract.

4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

5. Divide batter evenly among prepared pans and smooth tops.

6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

7. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

8. For frosting, beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, then vanilla extract and butter.

9. Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Repeat with the remaining layers.
